Ear Care Awareness Program at Bharati Bhawan Secondary School, Pokhara-19

On 28 July, an ear awareness program was conducted at Bharati Bhawan Secondary School, located at Puranchour, Pokhara-19. The school was 11km far from the NELUMBO, NEPAL’s office. This program aimed to raise awareness of common ear problems, the impact of hearing loss, and preventive measures for protecting and maintaining good ear health. Such programs are taken as the most cost-effective investments, as they can boost both health and education at the grassroots level. Additionally, these students act as a bridge between knowledge and perception in their families and society by sharing their insights.
The main objective of the awareness program was to educate students about ear disorders and their prevention and to encourage students for regular hearing check-ups for early intervention. A total of 107 students participated in the awareness program who were from classes 8 to 10 along with teachers and some members of the Nepal Red Cross Society. The session was conducted by Ms. Pratikshya Basnet, Ear Care Practitioner, on the following topics.
- Introduction of the ear
- Structure of the ear
- Ear-related disorder, symptoms of ear-related diseases
- Hearing loss, causes of hearing loss, symptoms, and prevention of hearing loss
- Ear Infection and its causes, symptoms, and prevention
- Ear wax and its causes, symptoms, and prevention
- Glue ear and its causes, symptoms, and prevention
- Tinnitus and its causes, symptoms, and prevention
The students demonstrated a high level of interest during the session. Following the presentation, an engaging question and answer session took place, with active participation from most of the students. The Ear Awareness program at Bharati Bhawan Secondary School met its goal of educating students on the crucial importance of ear health. This program furnished valuable education and resources, aimed at preventing hearing loss and promoting overall ear health.
