Hepatitis C & struggles of a single mother
Buddhi Maya Nepali is a 26-year-old female who belongs to a family with low income living in Machhapuchre Rural Municipality-06, Dhital. She was brought up by a single mother. She completed her studies till class 7 but with the peer influence, she started to live in the streets of Pokhara and soon dropped out of school. As her family pressured her to get married, at the age of 16 years she did so, which only made her situation worse as she now became the victim of domestic violence. While she was going through this, she got pregnant with a baby girl who is now 7 years old. As the suffering became unbearable, she left her husband’s house and went to her mother’s. But after a few months, she left her girl child with her mother and started living in Pokhara to earn a living for herself. With such transitions in her life and with the influence of her friends’ circle, she started working as a contact-based Female Sex Worker (FSW).
Buddhi Maya Nepali was connected to NELUMBO, NEPAL by an NGO Opportunity Village Nepal (OVN) as a “Hepatitis C” patient for further treatment. The initial treatments were started by OVN which included a general checkup and viral load test. As the medication and treatment procedure for “Hepatitis C” is costly and the organization is unable to bear all the expenses, it reached out to NELUMBO, NEPAL for financial aid for her.
