A school’s healthy and safe physical environment promotes learning by ensuring the health and safety of students and staff. Education is a crucial aspect of everyone’s life and is one of the basic needs of life. Acknowledging this, from its initial working years NELUMBO, NEPAL is working towards the goal of improving the quality of education and making it accessible to all the students of the working area.

Shree Deurali Basic School is situated at Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-07, Dhampus. The school consists of a total of 35 students (19 Female and 16 Male), 3 teachers, and 2 support staff. The school has been facing the problem of an unhygienic environment and physical threats (e.g. injury, accidents, and random cattle grazing) because of worn-out fencing and compounding of the school premises. As NELUMBO, NEPAL carries the objective of ensuring to provide educational supports to ensure the proper teaching and learning of the students in its working areas, it has provided this financial aid in the construction of the fence and compound of the aforementioned school.

Activity Details:

With the arrival of request letter to support Shree Deurali Basic School, Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-07, Dhampus for compounding and fencing of the school’s compound along with recommendation letter from the Ward Office, MRM-07, NELUMBO, NEPAL inspected the situation of the school. While doing so, the need for support was seen and felt for the students, teachers, and the whole school’s betterment. Thus, the two-party agreement was done between NELUMBO, NEPAL, and the school on 2078 Ashwin 04 (September 20, 2021) to complete the work of compounding and fencing. The total estimated amount for this work was Rs.3,23,260 (Three lakh twenty-three thousand, two hundred and sixty rupees only) out of which Rs.2,60,000 (Two lakhs sixty thousand rupees only) was supported by NELUMBO, NEPAL for the procurement of construction materials like: G.I. fencing wires, G.I. fencing mesh, sand, cement, etc. and the remaining Rs. 36,260 (Thirty-six thousand and two hundred sixty rupees only) was contributed by the school and community member as the labor support. The construction work was started after the agreement was signed and completed in the month of Poush, 2078. The inauguration was done jointly by Ward Chairperson Mr. Som Bahadur Gurung and NELUMBO, NEPAL chairperson Mr. Eka Dev Devkota on 2078 Poush 17 (January 1, 2022) in the presence of school authorities, parents and students, and community people.

With the completion of this activity, it is expected that the students and teachers will have a safe and sound environment for the teaching and learning activity. Also, this will aid in the improvement of the teaching and learning behavior which in long run will maintain the standard of the school in providing proper education to the community children.
