Dental pain and discomfort are common issues that affect people of all ages. One of the main causes of dental pain is dental caries, which is a widespread problem. Recently, a 22-year-old man came to our free dental camp in Dhampus, Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-07. He had a swollen face, cheek, and severe pain on the right side of his face. Unfortunately, his tooth decay had progressed without proper treatment, leading to serious conditions and intense pain. The pain was so severe that he couldn’t eat and his mouth couldn’t fully open, a condition known as trismus.

After gathering his medical history, an appropriate dental procedure was carried out by the dental team (Dental Surgeon and Dental Hygienist) to address the problem of the patient. In addition, he received intravenous medications for immediate pain relief and to prevent infection. Following the surgery, the dental surgeon provided counseling and advice to the patient. He was scheduled for a follow-up appointment after 48 hours for dressing changes and to monitor his progress. A few days later, the patient returned with a smile, reporting that his mouth opening had improved and he could eat again. On the final day of the camp, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the entire dental team of NELUMBO, NEPAL for relieving his pain. Below are pictures documenting his treatment journey, from the initial phase to the surgery and recovery.

This is just one example of the many patients who sought medical treatment at our dental camp. Like the patient mentioned above, numerous people suffer from various dental problems due to limited access to healthcare facilities, timely treatment, and medications. In response to this issue, NELUMBO, NEPAL has been organizing free dental camps and awareness programs in different rural municipalities of Gandaki Province.
