Shade in Monsoon Rain
The monsoon rain that began in the last week of June 2021 triggered flooding and landslides in many parts of the country, affecting around 10,000 families in 56 out of the country’s 77 districts. The onset of rain, humidity and a rise in temperature brings the season of monsoon that affects most parts of Nepal. Heavy rain in this season damages the housing conditions, food crops, and so on, affecting the livelihood of the people.
One such victim was Devsara Damai, a permanent resident of Okharbot, Myagdi District. She is currently living with her husband in her wrecked tent house on the shore of the Seti river at Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-02, Sardikhola. She works as daily-wage labour on the bank of the same river for her livelihood. Her temporary shed, a tent house, was affected by the heavy rain of the monsoon, making her tent house vulnerable to the leakage of rainwater, making it difficult for her and her husband to live in the tent.
Acknowledging that, NELUMBO, NEPAL provided some food relief (rice, pulse, salt, sugar, tea leaves, cooking oil, gram, and spices) worth Rs. 3,480 (Three thousand four hundred and eighty rupees). Likewise, Devsara Damai was supported with a tent worth Rs. 2,600 (Two thousand six hundred rupees). This support was provided to Devsara Damai on 2078 Ashoj 10.
